  • ABOUT ME
My name is Radoslaw Bialek. I'm from Poland. I was born in 1985. In 2002 I heard Astral Projection's "Kabalah", "Let There Be Light", "No One Ever Dreams" and "People Can Fly", and that was a turning point in my life. The Psybient.net website was created in 24th of March 2007 as the final place where my music interests meet my writing pleasure. Since 1st of January 2008 the site is available in English language as well, because - besides such an obvious thing that it can reach wider circle of people - it's the best way to learn this language in my case, what is one of my life's aims. In the future, when my English will be really good in my opinion, all of the texts will be translated once again. But for now, please forgive me if my English is bad for you.

  • ETHOS
In the Eden you can find my system of values with reference to music: the greatest artists and the greatest albums in the whole history.

  • SITE'S VISION
Psybient.net is a website created with a thought to promotion widely defined psychedelic electronic music. This music has variety colours. On its sound horizon we can single out uptempo styles (dynamic, dancing) as well as downtempo ones (relaxing, deeply relaxing). Goa, psytrance, psybient, ambient - about all of these and all marginal things, very many styles, in different aspects and reflecting my own point of listening to, I try to write on this website, which is my personal tribute to the creators of that unusual sounds palette. I am not earning any money from it - my only motivation for the work on its develop is music exactly.

  • SITE'S NAME
The "Psybient" from the site and domain name is a short form of "psychedelic ambient". Although the site isn't about that style of music only, since treates psybient equally with other styles, then precisely psybient I decided to choose for a name, because this is the only one course of the psyscene (the scene of psychedelic electronic music - the scene clustered around the psychedelic trance of the 90's) that has kept a unique quality after the psychedelic trance death. It is also my additional personal tribute to those of the artists who are moving the idea of psychedelic trance to the musical ground, of a little bit different form though, yet same rich and charming in its content.

  • SITE'S HISTORY
Psybient.net was opened in 24th of March 2007. At the beginning the site was in Polish language only. In May/June 2007, after some promptings, I decided to create its English version. In 30th of September 2007 the last update of one-language form of Psybient.net was published. The new chapter in Psybient.net history began with 1st of January 2008. Since that day the site is running simultaneously in Polish and English language. Every Polish update find its mirror image in English version, however, not everything, what Polish version got before 2008, has been translated till present day to the English edition. Besides, I still have a big number of new ideas to implement, so the site isn't builded yet, it wil be builded in a few years - and on which stage of development Psybient.net is at this moment, you'll know always from the main news. All external links were checked in 18th of December 2007.

  • COPYRIGHTS
I am the author of all texts contained in Psybient.net. From where I get any informations (biographical facts)? The base are always official artists/labels sites and informations from Discogs.com, in case of Israeli musicians I'm using informations from IsraTrance.com. Photos, logos, CD covers - nearly all of these things come from Discogs.com. From that place I get around 99% of all graphics, remaining per cent comes from artists/labels official websites. All graphics I'm using only to inform. Layout, logo, and splash screen as well, was made by LD. The layout was created by my project inspired by AmbientMusicGuide.com layout.

  • TECHNICAL ISSUES
The site is adapted to resolutions: 1024x768 px, 1280x1024 px and 1400x1050 px, and to browsers: Opera 10.0, Internet Explorer 6.0 and Mozilla Forefox 3.5.3.

The only one difference in the site's displaying between these browsers is noticeable in an extended discography in the Artists section, compare the examples:
- Opera 10.0,
- Internet Explorer 6.0,
- Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3.

  • DISCOGRAPHY SYSTEM
Psybient.net is about official releases only - starting with CDs, extending onto other formats. All promotional releases, samplers or CD-additions to the magazines, in any form, are not being described at the site's discographies. At the moment, the discographies sometimes also contain releases in the CD-R format, but in 2010 they will be probably deleted. Presence of artists' self-releases will also be decided in 2010.

The table below contains the scheme of releases types that will be contained ultimately in all artists discographies, and the scheme of releases types that are already being described in the labels discographies.

The way of presenting particular type of release and its definition used at the site:

CD ALBUM - the main musical work piece of an artist released in a CD form (studio album), containing only new tracks or new tracks in majority,
example: Astral Projection - "Dancing Galaxy" (Trust In Trance Records + Phonokol, 1997)

CD COMPILATION - a CD which contains tracks by various artists,
"VA" (various artists) note at the place of artist name,
example: VA - "Fahrenheit Project Part Five" (Ultimae Records, 2005)

Additional commentary: in the case of artist page and list of "compilations" in the short discography, compilation means every untypical studio release by an artist, in other words:
- a release by one artist containing remixes, f.e. Astralasia - "The Hawkwind Remixes" (Voiceprint, 2007), which means a compilation of remixes,
- a "live" release type by one artist, f.e. Hallucinogen - "In Dub - Live" (Twisted Records, 2009), which means a compilation of tracks from a live performance, a live set,
- a "the best of" release type by one artist, f.e. X-Dream - "The Best 1991-2001" (Solstice Music International, 2006), which means a compilation of older tracks, often already released before by a given artist and well-known,
- a release by one artist containing old, not published tracks, f.e. SFX - "The Unreleased Tracks 89-94" (Trust In Trance Records + Phonokol, 1998), which means a compilation that after some years shows a given artist's beginnings or music unreleased earlier due to any other reason,
- a release with tracks by different artists compiled (selected etc.) by one artist, f.e. VA - "Advanced Options 3 - Compiled By Echotek" (Brand New Entertainment, 2007),
- a release with tracks by different artists mixed by one artist, f.e. VA - "Worldbridger - Mixed By Goa Gil" (Avatar Records, 2007).

CD EP - a CD which contains over 4 different tracks, but not an album due to its whole relatively short time-length (EP is sometimes called "mini album"),
"EP" (extended play) note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Transwave - "Hypnorhythm" EP (Step 2 House, 1995)

Additional commentary: an EP's definition is very loosely - sometimes it lasts less than a single, sometimes it lasts as many as album, so at the site as an EP is marked simply each release marked that way by a label.

CD MAXI-SINGLE - an extended single, a CD which contains more than 2 tracks (mainly 3, but also 4 or 5), including remixes,
"CDM" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Infected Mushroom - "Deeply Disturbed" CDM (Brand New Entertainment, 2003)

CD SINGLE - a CD which contains 2 tracks,
"CDS" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Juno Reactor - "Guardian Angel" CDS (Blue Room Released, 1995)

DVD - any kind of release in a DVD form,
"DVD" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Aural Float - "Moving Images" DVD (Elektrolux, 2007)

A note to the below releases of "digital" type: at the Psybient.net site they only relate to those of releases, which have been released solely in the digital download format (that is official files available to download from the internet: .mp3, .wav, .flac etc.) and were never published on a CD; so if any album was released on a CD and by a digital download, then that second form is passed over in the discography, because today almost every CD release is also available by digital download.

DIGITAL ALBUM - an album's description as above,
"DA" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Chi-A.D. - "Eyes Of Gaia" DA (www.chi-ad.com, 2008)

DIGITAL COMPILATION - a compilation's description as above,
"VA" note at the place of artist name,
"DC" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: VA - "Digital Singles Vol. 1" DC (Aleph Zero Records, 2007)

DIGITAL EP - at least three different tracks by one artist,
"DEP" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Koan - "Coastline" DEP (Sofa Beats Records, 2007)

Additional commentary: alike in the CD case, an EP's definition is loosely, sometimes a label marks as an EP even a release of one track in two versions, f.e. Astral Projection - "The Prophecy" (Brand New Entertainment, 2006), so at the site are the same marks as labels did.

DIGITAL SINGLE - a single's description as above,
"DS" note at the title end of that type of release,
example: Aes Dana - "Manifold" DS (Ultimae Records, 2007)

Additional commentary: although there are also maxi-singles in the digital download form, then they are so much rarely, then at the site both maxi-singles and singles are simply described as singles.

VINYL - any kind of release in a vinyl format (7", 10", 12" etc.)

Additional commentary: vinyl releases will be added to the site in 2010 at the earliest.

CASSETTE - any kind of release in a cassette form

VHS - any kind of release in a VHS form

COMPACTSTICK - any kind of release in a compactstick form

  • ARTIST STATUS
The whole Artists section is under thorough and ultimate update - it was started in July of 2009, and will end around 2012. The text below describes my entire plan connected with the development of that section.

The more significant artist for the site's course, the more extensive its description of profile/biography and discography - and that exactly marks the artist's status, which is contained in the margin of artist page.

Since July of 2009 every another updated artist's page I am signing with an appropriate lv. (level). There's five-degrees scale: from the most frugal form of an artist description marked as lv.1, to the byzantium marked as lv.5. The two lowest description's degrees will be very small, that is why these will appear by the name of "profile", whereas each higher level will be already looking more decently, so these will appear under the name "biography". And identical change to each of the levels: which is a depth of an artist's discography. That short info is clarifing at the moment, how deep description of an artist I have an intention to do. Very important: lv. of any artist can always rise or fall due to my experience related to it.

On which depends that a particular artist will have (or already has) a particular lv.? It's very simple, it will be assembled from these things (one by one starting from the most important):
- how much I know the music of an artist,
- how much I like that music (how it is good, how I value it),
- how many informations about that artist I am able to find.

The levels of the artists description's depth - here is finally the detailed plan of how the artists pages will look like when the whole work will be finished, and started in 2010 within lv.1 artists. An artist marked with a particular status' lv. will have an appropriate description:

     PROFILE

lv.1

- photos: one at maximum,
- in description: members names, music style,
- samples: no,
- discography: look at the lv.1 in the discography system,
- support: to 31st of December 2009,
- related: to about 1/3 of all artists,
- will be done: in 2010.

lv.2

- photos: two at maximum,
- in description: members names, music style and a few additional, deeper sentences about a project,
- samples: a few, they will be contained at the end of artist description,
- discography: look at the lv.2 in the discography system,
- support: to 31st of December 2009,
- related: to about 1/3 of all artists,
- will be done: in 2010/2011.

     BIOGRAPHY

lv.3

- photos: three at maximum,
- in description: kind of a mini-biography, many sentences about a project, about its background, how it was created, about its music, evolution, best achievements etc.,
- samples: a dozen or so, they will be an integral part of biography,
- discography: look at the lv.3 in the discography system,
- support: will continue,
- artists examples: Asura, Atmos, Cell, Goa Gil, ManMadeMan etc.,
- will be done: in 2011.

lv.4

- photos: five at maximum,
- in description: a biography that describes already not only a project's background and its existence, but also a year-by-year description of its releases in a form of micro-reviews,
- samples: several dozen, they will be an integral part of biography,
- discography: look at the lv.4 in the discography system,
- support: will continue,
- artists examples: Infected Mushroom, Juno Reactor, The Future Sound Of London, The Infinity Project, X-Dream etc.,
- will be done: in 2011/2012.

lv.5

- photos: ten at maximum,
- in description: a very deep and insightful biography, a list and a description of every kind of collaborations and releases year-by-year, micro-reviews and many more things I will only devise,
- samples: of all tracks of all releases, they will be an integral part of biography,
- discography: look at the lv.5 in the discography system,
- support: will continue,
- all described artists: a very well-thought-out choice: the Eden, the greatest artists in the history of psychedelic trance and ambient: Astral Projection, MFG, Hallucinogen, Shpongle and Ishq,
- will be done: in 2012.

     Some explanations:
- support - will a discography be still updated after 2010? That is too gigantic work to have all artists also of the lv.1-2 with updated discographies, however, after 2009 occasionally I can update that given discography, a date of discography's update will marks that fact always; of course the artists of lv.3 and above will always have updated their discographies, it will be done in bulk once in a while; the suport will end within 2009 at most cases because psychedelic trance is already dead for some years,
- samples - there will be many new samples done by me in 2010 and 2011, one objection: there will be no sample of track that lasts less than three minutes,
- I'm starting to describe artists from the lowest lv., because simultaneously that work will be created also in this English version of the site; the level of my English will be for sure better in a few years, so the longest and the most difficult texts will be created at the end,
- there are three key borders in the artists descriptions: lv.1-2 - their support will end in 2009, then lv.3 - a description will be already bigger and deeper and will be continued after 2009, and then lv.4-5 - which means the best, worth recommendation always and everywhere.

A word for the end: I have already gathered very many informations about all the artists. I will have a motivation = finding a time for that work won't be a problem. Everything depends on the motivation. Due to the site, development of the Artists section is my absolute priority for the forthcoming years.

  • ARTIST MUSIC
Since August of 2009 the music samples are also available on the artists pages in the special chapter called "music" which is contained between profile\biography and discography. These samples directly come from the Music section and will be in the present form contained in the Artists section till the moment, when a page of given artist will be definitively created. That "music" chapter will be deleted then, while the samples become an integral part of the artist's profile/biography. I have a will to create very many new samples - around 2,000! The artists of lv.2 will have a few samples at the end of their profiles, whereas the samples on the artists pages of lv.3-5 will be a part of a journey through artist's biography: another stages of that biography will be spiced up with samples, and so you will know a given artist yet in a better way than ever before.

  • ARTIST DISCOGRAPHY
The artists discographies are still being updated and adapted to the planned design, the description below will have its full place at the site around October/November 2009.

A discography on the artist page has two versions:
- a short version,
- an extended version.

A discography in the short version is simply an artist's releases list. It is definite according to the hierarchy: albums, compilations, ep's, maxi-singles, singles, other releases. In each of these groups the releases are sorted chronologically - starting from the oldest one, ending on the newest one. The albums, compilations, ep's, maxi-singles and singles relate to releases in a CD form. If a release is unique and available only in a digital form (digital download), then after a release name there is "[digital]" note, the same relates to vinyl releases - though at the moment there is just one example for that (it is signed as "[LP]"). While "other releases" mark three things: an artist's DVD releases, relesaes directly (officially) not connected with a given artist and his musical way, but what widen a horizon of knowledge about its music; f.e. it can be a CD where that artist participated under different pseudonyms, and also soundtracks created by an artist for a game or a movie - these are marked in a short discography version as "soundtrack", while in an extended one, at the title end of such a release there's "ST" or "DST" (in case of digital release). All additional informations are contained always in the square bracket. So that can be one by one: the co-artists (each marked as "+"), number of versions, format: a digital, LP or DVD, and the "soundtrack" mark for a game/movie soundtrack.

Whereas in the extended discography each release is being described in details: has a cover, label name, year of release and a full tracklist. The extended discography starts from the oldest release, ends on the newest one. So the releases chronology is the only one criterion here.

The artists discographies are based on uniqueness. If any album was released in two different versions (f.e. that have different covers or different tracklist), then in its discography the both versions are detailed:
- in the short discography, at the end of such a release there is a note about its releases number (f.e. ["2 versions"]),
- in the extended dicography each of the versions of mentioned release is being described individually and the number of versions from the short discography finds its reflection here.

  • LABEL DISCOGRAPHY
Likewise an artist discography, a label discography is made of two versions and so has:
- a short version - it's a chronological, year by year list of the label's releases; in case of the releases of the same year, the next chronology criterion are the releases catalogue numbers,
- an extended version - each release is being chronologically described in details: has a cover, label's name, year of release, catalogue number (that is not contained in an artist discography), and a full tracklist as well.

To define if a particular discography is absolutely complete, each label's description contains an additional note in the margin - i.e. a discography can be "full, complete" (objectively containing all releases of all formats) or only "full" (the note contains postscript of what is missed to have a totally complete discography). The point of this division is to have the answer: is a particular discography containing all releases in the CD form, or not? Psybient.net is about CD releases and that's why that separation exists. The end.
