PROFILE

Ultimae Records is a French label based in Lyon, promoting ambient, ethnoworld, downtempo trance, trance and progressive trance. Label was born in 1999 when French musician Vincent Villuis decided to create his own label and he named it Infinium Records. In January 2001 Vincent met Mahiane (aka Sunbeam). The duo decided to work together, they reorganized Infinium and changed its name to Ultimae; but the previous name is still alive, because it sign the catalogue numbers of Ultimae releases. CDs from the label since the second CD are released in panoramic digipacks, sometimes with 16-pages booklet. Besides "normal" releases, Ultimae is also releasing limited edition CDs that can be bought only on official label website. Till this moment there are only two production sign as "limited edition": "Aftermath" by Aes Dana and "Extended" by Solar Fields. There wasn't released a CD with the #INRE013 number. In February 2007 Ultimae created a new series of releases, so-called e-releases - these are EPs that can be bought only in digital formats (MP3, WAV). Ultimae team: managers - Sandrine Gryson (Sunbeam) and Vincent Villuis, music licensing and synchronisation - Sarah Andersen, audio mastering - Huby Sea and Vincent Villuis, graphic and web design - Vincent Villuis.

REVIEW

Ultimae is a label that promoting unusually relaxing music, music aimed for rare landscapes. Ultimae sounds are varied ambient visions: cosmic and earthly at the same time, magic and realistic at the same time, organic and technologic at the same time... For ambient and downtempo lovers every information about new release from Ultimae is like being in paradise for a moment. Aes Dana, Asura, Solar Fields, Carbon Based Lifeforms, H.U.V.A. Network - these projects are the great stars on the world scene. Musicians are happy that from the label side there isn't any pressure for their artistic work. So the label appear like a perfect place for artists and chillout adorers. That's incredible, that Ultimae always release CD minimum on the very good level. Perhaps never was born a bad review of its music. Beautiful in the label activity is also that besides music, Ultimae is a synonym of very beautiful cover art and booklet... If there exist a perfect label, a label that we can fall in love, it is for sure Ultimae.
